Gentlemen:
I mentioned this past Sunday that we were to have a missionary come and speak to us 18-21 SEP. The missionary "guest" will be Rose McPherson. I thought it would be appropriate to have one of our very own, and one whom we have supported in our church budget, to come and share with us what God is doing over in another part of the world. Although she is not supported by the GCF, the time will still be used to prime the pump on GCF giving. I have also learned another valuable lesson about the Alliance in scheduling Fall weekends that I thought worthy of passing on to you. The Alliance scheduled their missionaries to be on SPRING tours (thus, the reason that all Alliance churches have their annual missions conference in the SPRING semester) and the missionaries do not normally plan on speaking in churches during the Fall semester. Apparently, everyone has been bending over backwards for me without explaining the logic behind why it is so difficult to get people in to speak for a week in the Fall! In any case, Rose will be here and I think it will be good for our folks to hear from one of their own about what God is doing in other parts of the world. Their money has been going to support her and we can still pump the GCF. In other news, there has been a change regarding our youth group that has finalized recently. As you know, Scott Crabtree was heading up the youth ministry until this past year when Robert Harrell took the reins. Robert mentioned to Phil Honeycutt and Scott that he did not feel lead to continue to lead that ministry, but to focus on "his kids" (aka - the group of black kids that he brings on Sundays). Scott and Nancy are heading up Trek again this year, which has been a vibrant ministry and one that I am glad they can do together. With that, Alanna and I have decided to head up the high school aged kids this year. This will involve shifting the Men's Discipleship Group likely to a Sunday School hour class on Sunday mornings. By our next elders meeting (7 September @ 12:00 noon) I will have a concrete answer on what we will be doing with that group and would certainly welcome any input you have. Thanks for all you do! I pray for you often and truly am thankful to be doing God's Work alongside you. Please let me know if you need anything. - Justin
